The Scottish Property Federation is the voice of the real estate industry in Scotland, an industry that accounts for one in every 13 jobs. We work collaboratively with policy makers and other industry stakeholders to create a thriving built environment that provided the homes, leisure and employment spaces that Scotland needs.
We deliver our mission by working collaboratively with national and local government and other partners; by promoting knowledge, innovation and best practice within the industry.
Our membership reflects the diverse nature of our industry and includes owners, developers, funders, agents and advisers. Organisations join the SPF because they want their voices to be heard and recognise our influence benefits the whole industry.
BPF Futures is a community of over 2,400 members, shaped and managed by junior professionals and supported by the SPF and wider British Property Federation.
The BPF Futures mentoring programme launched in 2021 and connects young-in-career property professionals with senior peers and leaders across the industry.
It supports the personal development of junior professionals and, at the same time, allows senior industry professionals to support and learn from their junior colleagues.
The scheme also supports the property industry’s mission to foster a stronger culture of equality, where ultimately a more diverse range of property professionals reach our industry’s boardrooms and senior decision-making positions in their careers.
Our mentoring programme pairs senior industry leaders with junior professionals. Applications to be a mentor or mentee are open in May/June and then our pairing process takes place over August.
Matches are announced in September, and between September and May, mentors and mentees are expected to meet for six, one-hour in-person sessions. Training materials and support is provided by the BPF throughout the programme, and the cohort of mentors and mentees are given opportunities to connect and network as a group.
We pair mentors and mentees carefully to ensure a good match. Pairings are ideally in complementary locations and industries, although we believe strongly that the best matches do not always have the same specialties. Both our mentors and mentees have commented how much they have learnt from each other, even when not in the same type of organisation or profession.
The programme is great for anyone who is uncertain about their career goal.
Having a mentor can help you see your situation from a different perspective; after every meeting with my mentor, I would go to work motivated and determined to excel.
This programme has a lot to give and YOU are in control of what you get from it.
How can I get involved?
Applications for the 2025 – 2026 cohort have now closed. However, we expect applications for the 2026 – 2027 cohort to open in June 2026 - so stay tuned for more information!
We have many other opportunities for learning and development throughout the year. If you're not already a member, you can join BPF Futures here today.
The BPF plays a great role in connecting the property industry.
Being a mentor has been a very rewarding way to connect with young professionals at the outset of their careers.
The mutual benefits of mentoring relationship never cease to amaze me.
